My problem with the whole dragged out process is that I long for the simplest legislation (a bishop may be a man or a woman)which some other provinces of the <br />Anglican communion seem to have managed.Nancy Wallacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08414597433860002332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5244275961793143825.post-65410116293046415342012-05-25T18:52:24.814+01:002012-05-25T18:52:24.814+01:00Janet - the amendments don't seem to have reas...Janet - the amendments don't seem to have reassured some of those for whom they appear to be designed and (as you point out)have the potential for heaping up trouble for the future.Nancy Wallacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08414597433860002332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5244275961793143825.post-64286420216563196552012-05-25T09:44:13.261+01:002012-05-25T09:44:13.261+01:00Glad to see you feel the same way about this. I think it may be an attempt to keep everyone happy so the legislation has a good chance of getting through the next stages, but I'm so disappointed that it was felt necessary to add any amendment.Nancy Wallacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08414597433860002332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5244275961793143825.post-62498229932194463832012-05-22T21:43:13.294+01:002012-05-22T21:43:13.294+01:00Perpetua - thanks for commenting. I can see it was important to put the actual wording of the amendments in the public domain but in spite of Shaun's helpful interpretation I'm still trying to make sense of what it meant. Or rather I'm rather afraid that I do understand it and I don't like it.Nancy Wallacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08414597433860002332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5244275961793143825.post-60247642902325167882012-05-22T10:22:09.875+01:002012-05-22T10:22:09.875+01:00Being naturally paranoid, I am wondering whether t...Being naturally paranoid, I am wondering whether the language was deliberately opaque (does the CofE need cataract operations in both eyes?!). You know they say that English is a better language for diplomacy because it is easier to fudge meaning than French which is a model of clarity and precision by contrast. Perhaps this is a deeply 'diplomatic' document, into which everyone can read what they will?Lay Anglicanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16731735543104129849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5244275961793143825.post-63523144390060220162012-05-22T09:56:20.304+01:002012-05-22T09:56:20.304+01:00Nancy, when I read it yesterday I was flabbergaste...Nancy, when I read it yesterday I was flabbergasted that anyone could have issued such an opaque press release. I think Shaun made an excellent stab at unpicking what it meant. Thanks for posting the link.Perpetuahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01214396019726161983noreply@blogger.com
