80th Anniversary of VJ Day
It's a bitter-sweet day today, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2. That war had ended in Europe in May 1945 but continued elsewhere. 8th August 1945 is the day that Japan surrendered. After atomic bombs had been dropped by the USA on 2 of their major cities, Japan really had no choice. Were the atomic bombs necessary to achieve that result? I really do not know. What I do know is that the bombings caused horrendous suffering and loss of life and I pray that typed of event will never happen again.
The photo at the head of this post is the 'Mother Child' statue in the Peace Park in Hiroshima, Japan. It reminds me of the lengths to which parents will go in an attempt to protect their child.
